WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE EYFS – GUIDE FOR PARENTS

The children learn through play based activities, both indoors and outdoors. We work closely as a unit and the children can free flow between the classrooms and the outdoor area.  We also use the school grounds and local area to support our learning.

At the beginning of the year, your child will participate in the Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA). At the end of the year, your child will be assessed against the Early Learning Goals.

Important information

Outdoor Adventures

This term our outdoor adventures will be on Tuesdays.

Phonics

We use Read, Write, Inc. (RWI) to teach phonics. We hold a Read, Write, Inc. parent information session in Term 1, but if you have any questions about the scheme or supporting your child, please ask.

Reading

Please listen to your child read every night and make a comment in their reading record. We use the children’s reading book in class daily, so please ensure that it is packed in your child’s book bag ready.

Reading at home

Library

Our library day will be on a Monday. The children can choose between fiction and non-fiction books. These books are for you to share with your child at home. Please ensure that your child brings their library book in on a Monday to change.

Physical Activity

PE with Mr Sing is on a Wednesday. Children need to come into school wearing their PE kit on this day.

Your child will also be involved in lots of other physical opportunities throughout the week. Some of these include: balance bikes, scooters, trim trail, yoga and playground games.

Class Dojo

We use Class Dojo as our main way of communicating with parents and carers. We will put messages and reminders on Dojo, so please check this regularly. You can send us messages on Dojo too, but we may not see messages during the school day. If your child is going home with someone else, please phone the school office.

We also use Dojo to post photographs of some of the activities that we are doing at school. We love to see the things that your child is doing at home, so please do share their activities and learning.

Helping in school

We are always looking for extra helpers in school. If you are interested in helping, please contact the school office.
