Head’s Greeting

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to the website for Trinity First School, which is a Church of England VC school sitting in beautiful grounds on the edge of Frome. I have been the Headteacher since September 2015 and I am extremely proud to be leading Trinity First School. As an early years specialist, I know how important it is for children to make the best start possible in their education. Our children are happy and friendly here at Trinity. The school day is extremely busy, but there is always a sense of calm and purpose around the school. The warm atmosphere was one of the things that absolutely shone for me when I first visited the school and I know many of our families really value the strong, nurturing relationships that exist between staff and pupils.

We constantly strive to make this school a happy, secure place for children to enjoy success at every level. Our site is spacious, with ten large, light and airy classrooms as well as plenty of space for small groups to work outside of class. We are blessed with beautiful grounds. There are two separate playground areas, a pond, a Forest School site and an adventure playground in addition to the field we share with Oakfield and Critchill schools. We make use of the outdoors as much as possible because we firmly believe that learning happens everywhere, and the best learning happens when we are actively involved in it.

We teach a broad curriculum, with lots of opportunity for practical, hands-on activities. Our Reception children are always busy learning through play and exploration, both indoors and in their wonderful outdoor classroom. Our children continue to follow a play-based curriculum in Year 1 and even into Year 2. We employ a modern languages specialist to teach the children Spanish in years 2, 3 and 4. Mr Sing is our PE teacher and he teaches each class for one of their two PE lessons every week. During their time at Trinity, the children also have weekly swimming lessons for a year and we teach them a variety of musical instruments including ukulele, recorders and percussion instruments.

We teach our children early reading using the Read, Write, Inc phonics scheme. We make sure that we invest time and resources into making the teaching of reading as successful as it can be. Alongside secure reading skills, we strive to create a love of reading in our children wherever possible.

At Trinity we like to work with parents in an education partnership. We are proud of the service we offer children and by working with parents we aim to continually improve our offer to your children. Trinity is a nurturing environment in which children are encouraged to do their very best. Their achievements, at whatever level,  are recognised and valued. We want our children to love learning and to benefit from the many opportunities a high quality education brings.

I hope our website will help answer lots of questions you may have about life at Trinity School as well as provide a constant source of information for our parents and the wider school community. If you would like to find out more about us, please do contact the school office.
