Head’s Greeting

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to the website for Trinity First School, which is a Church of England VC school sitting in beautiful grounds on the edge of Frome. I have been the Headteacher since September 2015 and I am extremely proud to be leading Trinity First School. Our children are happy and friendly here at Trinity and although the school day is extremely busy, there is always a sense of calm and purpose around the school. The warm atmosphere was one of the things that absolutely shone for me when I first visited the school and I know many of our families really value the strong, nurturing relationships that exist between staff and pupils.

We constantly strive to make this school a happy, secure place for children to enjoy success at every level. Our site is spacious, with ten large, light and airy classrooms as well as plenty of space for small groups to work outside of class. We are blessed with beautiful grounds, with two separate playground areas, a pond, a Forest School site and an adventure playground in addition to the field we share with Oakfield and Critchill schools. We make use of the outdoors as much as possible as we firmly believe that learning happens everywhere, and the best learning happens when we are actively involved in it. We teach a broad curriculum, with lots of opportunity for practical, hands-on activities. Our children continue to follow a play-based curriculum in Year 1 and even into Year 2, and for the children in Years 3 and 4 we employ a music specialist to deliver their weekly music lesson, and a modern languages specialist to teach them French or Spanish. Mr Sing is our PE teacher and he teaches each class for one of their two PE lessons each week. We teach our children early reading using the Read, Write, Inc phonics scheme and we make sure that we invest time and resources into making the teaching of reading as successful as it can be. We aim to create a love of reading in our children wherever possible.

In normal times we welcome visitors and love having the opportunity to show people around the school that we are so proud of. However, due to the current situation, in order to keep our children and staff as safe as possible, we are unable to offer tours of the school. We are currently working on a virtual tour, which will be available on our website soon so please look out for that. For parents who are currently looking at schools for children due to start school in September 2021, I am also offering video calls to enable you to ask questions and for me to be able to tell you more about our school than we can manage in our virtual tour. If you would like to arrange a video call, please call or email the school office.

At Trinity we like to work with parents in an education partnership. We are proud of the service we offer children and by working with parents we aim to continually improve our offer to your children. Trinity is a nurturing environment in which children are encouraged to do their very best, and their achievements, at whatever level,  are recognised and rewarded. We want our children to love learning and to benefit from the many opportunities a high quality education brings.

I hope our website will help answer lots of questions you may have about life at Trinity School as well as provide a constant source of information for our parents and the wider school community. If, after browsing, you would like to find out more about us, please do contact the school office.
